2017 Home and Tree Protection Amulets

Amulets are charms thought to have magical protective powers. Over 40 Home Protection Amulets were produced between 2016 and 2017 by Gabrielle and residents from Newtown, Camperdown and St Peters, all faced with the dubious development of the WestConnex Motorway. A second iteration of objects called Tree Protection Amulets emerged around the same time in response to the removal of historic and established trees in St Peters, Randwick and Darlinghurst in 2017. The works have been exhibited at Tortuga Studios, The Corner Gallery in Stanmore, Chrissie Cotter Gallery in Camperdown and UNSW Art & Design AD Space.
