2021 – Gabrielle is currently calling for volunteers to participate in her Greenway Unknowns project which runs from 19 April to 8 May 2021. The research project is a new iteration of her Unknowns series and is supported by Inner West Council as part of their EDGE temporary residency program on The Greenway in Lilyfield, Sydney. In February 2021 Gabrielle conducted a 2 week residency in Kandos to research and work with residents to create more spirit creatures for her Unknowns series. In March she exhibited new amulets and talismans at The Coal Loader in North Sydney for the Project 2060 show curated by Alison Clark. Later in the year she will collaborate with composer and musician Serge Stanley to produce the immersive site activation “Building Song” at Chrissie Cotter Gallery in Camperdown.
2020 – In December 2020, Gabrielle Bates’s ‘Talisman 2’ received the Henry Award for Abstract Art at the Linden Postcard show. Gabrielle will talk via Zoom about the work on January 20 with curator Juliette Hanson. Details about the work can be found here.
2019 – A new iteration of Gabrielle’s ‘Working with the Dead’ will appear in the ‘Insitu’ group show at Chrissie Cotter Gallery, opening Thursday December 5, 2019 at 6.00 pm. The show will run until Sunday December 15 and all are welcome to attend.
2019 – Acclaimed artist Guan Wei recently selected Gabrielle’s painting ‘Witch Garden’ to appear in the Mosman Art Prize. The exhibition at the Mosman Art Gallery, Sydney, runs until late October 2019 and is free.
2019 – Gabrielle has a new creative activation coming up: Dub Circle – The Dark Procession, is a collaboration with DJ Semper Fi (aka Jeff Black), which will be held on Saturday, November 9 at Camperdown Park as part of EDGE Newtown. The project has been made possible with the generous support of The Inner West Council.
